I'm trying to get an old Windows 8 laptop working again for my dad. I'm looking for some recommendations on which Linux distribution to use. I'm considering Linux Mint with either the Cinnamon or Xfce desktop environment. Any suggestions or experiences with these options?

Why not try both desktop environments? Let your dad decide which one he likes better once he gets the chance to use them.

I'd say stick with Cinnamon; it's lightweight and pretty user-friendly. Just a heads up, Zorin OS is also an option, but honestly, Mint has more customization settings overall.

I'd recommend giving MX Linux a shot. It uses Xfce, and it's incredibly fast, but Mint with Cinnamon is definitely a solid choice too!

If your dad is used to Windows, I suggest going with either Cinnamon or KDE for a familiar user experience. KDE offers great customization options too!

Going with Mint Cinnamon is a great idea! It balances usability and resource efficiency well.
