Hi everyone! I'm a total beginner with no background in programming or computing, and I'm looking to switch from Windows to Linux. I initially thought about trying Ubuntu because I've heard it's user-friendly for new users. However, I've come across some criticisms from experienced Linux users regarding Ubuntu. I'm eager to leave Windows behind but I'm not sure which Linux distro would be the best fit for a total newbie like me. Any suggestions?

If you want a straightforward start, I recommend going with Ubuntu. To make it even easier, why not install it on a virtual machine first? This way, you can familiarize yourself with it without fully committing right away.

Have you considered Pop!_OS? It's a fork of Ubuntu that addresses a lot of the issues people mention online. It has great support for NVIDIA graphics and ARM processors, plus a clean UI. It comes pre-loaded with essential applications and minimal bloat. I've been using it for five years, and it just gets better with time!

Honestly, don't worry too much about the complaints regarding Ubuntu. They're often more philosophical than practical. I suggest going for Kubuntu, which is a version of Ubuntu but has a more Windows-like interface that might feel more familiar to you.

I use Kubuntu myself! While some people have issues with its 'snaps,' you don't have to use them if you don't want to. There are plenty of other beginner-friendly distros like Linux Mint or Zorin OS too. Just do a little research and pick one that appeals to you. The great part is, you can always switch later if you want!

I completely agree, just ignore the negativity! Look for a distro that's been stable for a while and matches your preferences. Alongside Kubuntu, I think Linux Mint is a great choice too. Both have user interfaces that resemble Windows, which can make your transition a lot smoother.
