Hey everyone! I'm a 15-year-old high school student and I'm in need of a laptop that can handle school work, some programming, and music production. I'm considering getting the new M4 MacBook Air with 256GB storage and 16GB RAM. However, I'm uncertain if that will be enough for running Logic and other applications. Should I stick with the Air or upgrade to a 512GB model or even a MacBook Pro? I'm worried about the budget, though! What do you all think?

Definitely go for as much RAM as your budget allows! It’s fixed and can’t be upgraded later. You could start off with a 256GB storage and add an external drive later if necessary.
If money isn’t too much of a concern, I’d recommend aiming for the M3 or M4 with at least 16GB RAM and 512GB storage or better. The M2 is decent, but if you can afford it, go for the M4 for the best performance.
I’d caution against taking expensive gear to school. Better to keep it safe!
An M2 MacBook would work perfectly for what you’re looking to do. I scored a refurb with 16GB RAM and 256GB storage for about $800, and honestly, it covers everything you need for school and music production.
I agree that an M2 is sufficient, but just a heads up, 256GB might fill up fast. I'd suggest 512GB for more breathing room since apps can take up a ton of space.

Totally agree! Expensive things can be a hassle at school.
