Best Motherboard and CPU Combo for My New DDR5 RAM?

I just got my hands on two 48GB sticks of DDR5 RAM, rated at 6400 MT/s, for a great price. I'm thinking of pairing them with a Ryzen 7800x3d and a B650 motherboard, but my friend suggests I should go for an X870E instead. It's been a while since I built a PC, so I'm a bit unsure about my options. Is the Ryzen 7800x3d a solid choice, and is a B650 board sufficient, or do I really need the X870E? Just for reference, my current setup has a 3080ti GPU, DDR3 RAM, and an i7 on a Z590 board.

A B650 board with solid VRMs is definitely enough for your setup. I’d recommend the MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI as it’s affordable and works great with the 7800x3d, which is an excellent CPU by the way! If you're near a Microcenter, check out their sales for those CPUs; I saw the 9800x3d for $400 and the 7800x3d around $300.

Awesome! Will the 7800x3d handle everything I throw at it?

You really don’t need to go for the X870E motherboard. A B650 will do just fine and offer similar performance unless you're specifically looking for features like Wi-Fi 7 or USB4. Just keep in mind that with your RAM clock speed, you might need to downclock it to 6000 MT/s if necessary.

Thanks for clarifying that!
