Hey everyone! I'm getting back into PC building after some time and I'm looking for advice on RAM for my new setup. I'll be using a 9950X3D processor on a GIGABYTE X870E AORUS PRO motherboard. My main tasks will be gaming, using Lightroom, and occasional video encoding. I've been reading that DDR5 RAM speeds between 6000 to 8000 are available, but I'm not sure how much of a performance boost the higher speeds provide. I also read that using two sticks is better for stability, so I'm thinking of going for 64GB. My budget for RAM is around $200 to $250, and I want to ensure I'm getting the best price-to-performance ratio without overspending for minimal gains. Any tips on speed, latency, or specific recommendations? Thanks!

For your build, I'd recommend aiming for CL30 DDR5 at 6000MHz, as it hits the sweet spot for both stability and performance, especially with an AMD processor. Definitely go for 64GB (2x32GB) since it'll cater to your multitasking needs well. That setup should serve you well for gaming and video editing.
Thanks for the tip! Any suggestions for solid motherboards in the $250 to $400 range? I want something reliable with good audio quality and stability. I’ve been eyeing the one I linked, but I’m open to others.
Check your motherboard's QVL (Qualified Vendor List) for RAM compatibility. It's a great way to find kits that work well with your setup. Generally, you won't see much difference in daily tasks with higher RAM speeds, but for specific tasks like video editing with software like Topaz Video Enhance AI, it might make a difference. About the 64GB, unless you're working with massive datasets, 32GB could be sufficient. 64GB is fine if you can afford it, but you could also look at 48GB, which often costs less than 64GB. Just make sure to pick the kit with the lowest latency within your budget at whatever speed you decide on.
Given you're investing in the 9950X3D, it's wise to get either 32 or 64GB of RAM. Go for DDR5-6000 with a CAS latency of 30; that's optimal for performance without breaking the bank. You'll be fine with that combination for gaming and editing.
Got it, CL30 sounds ideal! Appreciate the guidance!
If you're looking for solid options, the X870E series is indeed a good choice. Stability and performance are key, especially for your tasks. Just make sure it has decent reviews and PCIe 5 support!
