I'm managing some hefty disk arrays of over 100 TB and often need to track down what's eating up the space so I can ask the users to clean up their old files. WinDirStat feels a bit slow and struggles with the size of these arrays, taking around 20 minutes to analyze them. Is there a faster or more efficient tool that can help me visualize disk usage on these large storage systems?

You could also consider using TreeSize Pro, but if you're looking to upgrade, check out the new Solidigm 122.88TB U.2 NVMe drives for faster performance!
TreeSize is definitely faster than WinDirStat, but keep in mind that it'll still take some time to scan large arrays. It's a popular choice for this kind of task!
Thanks for the suggestion!

I have FSRM set up with soft quotas, but it only notifies once when violating the quota. I wish it kept sending reminders, especially since users often forget and overfill their space.
It sounds like you need to enforce stricter resource management policies. If users can just freely take up space without consequences, that could lead to bigger problems down the line. It's essential to address the root cause instead of just reporting on the issues after they happen.
It's manageable. This is mostly about one research unit; if they don't handle their own storage, that's on them. The real challenge is when they want to move or copy massive amounts of data.
I did look into upgrading to a 200 TB hybrid storage server, but funding issues have put a damper on that plan.
