Best Upgrade for My PC: GPU or CPU on a $500 Budget?

I'm looking to upgrade one part of my PC to extend its lifespan, focusing on single-player RPGs. My current setup includes an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X CPU, MSI B550 motherboard, 32 GB of Corsair Vengeance memory, a 1TB WD Black NVME SSD, and a GeForce RTX 3060 GPU, all housed in an NZXT case with a Corsair 750W power supply. I play on a 27" monitor with 2560 x 1440 resolution. Right now, I'm getting around 70-85 FPS on recent RPGs and my GPU utilization is consistently at 98%. I'm considering either upgrading to an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X or 5700X for the CPU, or going for a 7800 XT GPU if I can find a good deal. What do you think is the best option?

I’d suggest going all-in on a GPU upgrade. Getting an RX 7800 XT would greatly improve your gaming performance, especially with the titles you're playing. If you can stretch your budget a bit to around $530, you might even snatch a 9060 XT 16GB, which would be fantastic!

Right? It’s best to invest in the GPU now; your CPU can wait. The current market prices might be tricky, but a solid GPU will benefit you for a while.

I agree, a GPU upgrade is crucial. The 3700X is still strong for single-player games where most are not CPU-bound. Just keep your eyes peeled for good deals on the 7800 XT or see if you can nab a used one too.

Keep your entire budget focused on upgrading the GPU. Your current setup can handle what you're playing well enough, and with the 7800 XT, you'll see a genuine boost in FPS without the need for immediate CPU changes.

For sure! Plus, at 1440p, that 3060 is limiting your experience. The 7800 XT would really unleash your monitor's potential!

With your GPU hitting 98% utilization, it’s clear that it’s the bottleneck, especially at 1440p. Upgrading your CPU to a Ryzen 9 won’t yield much for single-player RPGs since your 3700X is still quite capable. A new GPU, like the 7800 XT, will make a significant difference and keep you performing well in future games without needing a CPU upgrade right now.

Exactly! Your CPU is handling the load, so save your cash for a great GPU upgrade. That 7800 XT would be a solid choice!
