A friend of mine is trying to enhance his gaming rig for 1440p resolution without breaking the bank—he's got about 500€ to work with. Currently, he has a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, a GTX 1660 Super GPU, and 16 GB of RAM. He's looking to play games like Call of Duty Warzone and Microsoft Flight Simulator, though the latter might be a stretch. I'm considering suggesting options like the 5060 Ti or the RX 7700 XT, but I'm worried that the 5060 Ti's 8 GB of vRAM may fall short for higher resolutions. Also, I'm concerned the Ryzen 5 3600 might bottleneck his experience at 1440p, but a CPU upgrade seems unlikely within his budget. Selling his current CPU and GPU could free up some cash for something like a Ryzen 7 5700X3D. What do you all think?

If you're leaning towards the 5060 Ti, definitely go for the 16 GB version instead of the 8 GB one—it's only a bit pricier and totally worth it for future-proofing!
The 5060 Ti 16 GB goes for under 500€, and while the Ryzen 3600 might struggle in competitive FPS games, you can still max out settings and make the most of the GPU.
I previously owned the 7700 XT, and while it was good, I'd recommend sticking to the 5060 Ti 16 GB for now given market conditions. Even though it seems a bit slower, it has more modern features, making it a better choice unless you're snagging a great deal on the RX 7800 XT.
Honestly, the 50 series GPUs aren't the best value. You might be better off looking at something like a 4070 Super if he can stretch his budget a bit.
Check out Amazon.de for potential deals; I saw you could grab a Ryzen 5 5600 and a 6750 XT for around 480€. That combo might really boost performance!
Both games lean heavily on the CPU, so an upgrade there would be beneficial. Just keep in mind that the GTX 1660 Super is a bit outdated for 1440p. 500€ is a tight budget, so he may have to prioritize.
I’m super satisfied with my RX 7800 XT, but I see your point about the value!
