Best Upgrade Options for Gaming Performance?

I recently purchased a prebuilt gaming PC with an i5-9400f and a 2070 Super, but I'm realizing it doesn't meet my gaming needs anymore. I want to upgrade my CPU, GPU, and motherboard to enjoy games at high/ultra settings at 1080p, with the option to go for 1440p or 4K in the future. I don't need the absolute best hardware, but I'd like it to be somewhat future-proof. I'm currently considering the Ryzen 7800X3D and maybe an RTX 5070; do you think this combo would be overkill for 1080p? Also, I heard that the 7800X3D has issues with using four sticks of RAM—is that true? I have four 8GB sticks right now, so will I need to replace them?

For the best stability, use two sticks of RAM instead of four. Go for 6000MHz CL30 if you can. If you’re eyeing the 5070, I’d actually suggest the 9060 XT 16GB or the 5070ti instead since they come with more VRAM, which is great for gaming. Personally, I’m running a Ryzen 5 7600 with an RX 9060 XT, and I can hit 130FPS at 1080p Ultra! Expect the 7800X3D to perform even better for that.

Just a tip—it's generally better to avoid four RAM sticks on any motherboard. They can be less stable compared to just using two, and you might have to run them at lower speeds. Always check your motherboard's compatibility list when using four sticks.

Make sure to check the game's requirements before upgrading! For competitive settings, the RTX 5070 shouldn’t be overkill. Just a reminder also, avoid using four sticks of DDR5; aim for a pair with at least 6000MT for the best performance.

That combo you're looking at is really solid! The 7800X3D paired with the RTX 5070 will definitely give you great performance, even at 1080p. If you want to save a bit, consider going for a Ryzen 9600X with an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB instead. As for RAM, you're right about needing to switch it—modern boards usually need DDR5, so you'll need to replace your current sticks anyway.
