Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my gaming PC and I could really use some advice. Currently, I have an Intel 11700KF processor, an Asus B560-G motherboard, 32GB of DDR4 RAM, and an RTX 4090 graphics card. I mostly play games at 4K resolution and I'm aiming for the best performance during this holiday season while taking advantage of possible financing options at Best Buy.
Here are the points I'm considering for the upgrade:
- Should I go for the AMD 7800X3D or the 9800X3D? It seems like the FPS difference is minimal considering the price.
- Any recommendations for a new motherboard? I think a B650 for the 7800 or a B850 for the 9800 might be the way to go.
- I'm also thinking of switching to DDR5 RAM, perhaps a 32GB (2x16) kit with CL36 latency since that fits my budget and seems to have decent availability at Best Buy.
- Lastly, what size NVMe drive would you recommend? I'm considering either a 1TB or 2TB.
I'd really appreciate any insights you could share. Thanks a lot!

From my experience, the 9800X3D tends to perform better in a wider range of games, especially those that aren't strictly cache-bound. While the 7800X3D is a good option, it might fall behind in certain scenarios, particularly in games that demand more core performance. If you're thinking long-term, the 9800 could be a safer bet.

Totally agree! The 9800X3D might require you to invest in a B850 motherboard, but it’ll likely pay off in longevity and performance. Plus, if you're really pushing for high FPS at 4K, it makes sense to go all out! Here's to future-proofing!
