Best Upgrade Path for Ryzen 5 2600x With New GPU?

Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my old Ryzen 5 2600x since I've just purchased an RTX 3070 ti at a good deal. I want to make sure I minimize any bottlenecking with the new GPU. Here are my options:

1. Upgrade to a Ryzen 5 5600x and boost my RAM to 32GB DDR4. I already have a B450 motherboard, so it just needs a BIOS update. This is the cheapest route.
2. Go for the Ryzen 5 5700x3d along with 32GB DDR4 RAM. I can keep my current motherboard, but I'm unsure if my Corsair 650W PSU will support this setup.
3. Switch to a Ryzen 5 7600, which means I'll need a new B650 motherboard and DDR5 RAM—definitely the priciest option but possibly the most future-proof.

I'm not on a super tight budget and willing to spend a bit more if it's worth it, aiming for the best bang for my buck since I plan to use this GPU setup for several years. Any advice on what path I should take? Thanks in advance!

P.S. I'm gaming on a dual monitor setup at 1080/1440p, with refresh rates between 144-180hz!

If you're considering option 3, I’d suggest swapping it out for the Ryzen 5 7500F if it’s available and affordable for you. Given the price of the 5700x3d plus the cost of 32GB of RAM, it might make option 2 less appealing. The 7500F is a solid choice, performing similarly to the 5700x3d but may save you some cash in the long run. Plus, it keeps you on the AM5 platform for future upgrades!

Totally with you on going AM5! The 7500F is a nice deal, especially if it’s cheaper than the 7600. Just keep an eye on any extra costs for that new motherboard and RAM.

In Denmark, the 7500F is about 15-20 Euros cheaper than the 7600. Just remember that you’ll still need to upgrade that motherboard and RAM.

Honestly, if you find the Ryzen 5700x3d at a reasonable price, it may be worth the investment. It should pair well with your system and wouldn’t be a problem for your 650w PSU alongside the 3070 ti, in most scenarios. Definitely worth considering if you’re looking for a balanced option without going overboard on costs.

For your dual monitor setup, the first option with the Ryzen 5 5600x would already be a significant upgrade. In most cases, it should handle your 3070 ti quite well, especially considering your target of 60 fps minimum. However, if you can snag a good deal on the 5700x3d, that’s your best bet. It's close in performance to the 7600, and the 650W PSU should be adequate for that combination.

Exactly! Both monitors at 180hz is demanding, but I think the 5600x paired with the 3070 ti will suffice for a good gaming experience.

Yeah, if you’re aiming for high fps in competitive games, the 5600x might be more than enough. Just tailor your settings per game for the best performance!
