I was surprised to find out that I could enroll in free extended security updates for Windows 7 for a year. This offer popped up because I have a Microsoft personal/family account linked to my PC, even though I mostly use a local profile. They mentioned it's due to me backing up settings and credentials. I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this, especially on a company domain joined PC. I know there's been discussions before about Microsoft possibly extending support, so I'm interested in hearing your thoughts!

Are you signing up or just seeing the offer? I've noticed the notification pops up even if you're not eligible. It’ll ask you to log in if you try to enroll without being signed in to a personal MS account.
Actually, our healthcare organization is getting an extra year of free updates. We only have a few hundred Windows 7 systems left to upgrade, so this helps us a lot!
How did you manage to get that? Is it just for healthcare entities?
No way, man! They’re not handing out free ESU updates. Get ready to pay up.
Why are you sticking with Windows 7 on a personal device anyway? That seems risky, especially for work. If you have to support older systems, it might be better to have separate setups.
I doubt you'll see this on a company domain. Microsoft is banking on businesses paying around $80 per device for those extended security licenses. They might avoid charging personal users to prevent backlash, but companies will definitely be on the hook for it.

I went through the enrollment process and was successful!
