I recently renovated a section of my garage into a room and need some advice on how to set up WiFi access there. The garage is about 7-8 meters away from my house, which has unlimited internet. I'm considering several options: 1) using a mobile internet dongle, but that has ongoing costs; 2) trying one or two WiFi extenders, though I've heard they're not very reliable at that distance; 3) using a device that extends WiFi through the electrical system, but I'm unsure if that would work since the garage has a separate consumer unit; or 4) setting up a WiFi mesh system with two nodes. I'm looking for the most efficient method and any potential issues I might not be aware of. I'm not very tech-savvy, so I appreciate any insights!

The best method is to run a cable, like Cat6 or fiber, and then connect a regular access point (AP) in the garage. But if you want to avoid wiring, a point-to-point outdoor wireless bridge is a solid second choice; it's almost as good as a direct connection. You could also mount a wireless AP on your house targeting the garage to bypass putting one inside. Just a heads up—WiFi extenders and mesh systems can introduce latency and bandwidth issues, so I wouldn't recommend them for your situation unless you really need an easy install.

I'm surprised you're not considering mesh systems more seriously. With a couple of wired APs in your house, it could work fine for what you need. My setup is similar, and it's been great!
