Hey everyone! I'm facing a frustrating issue with my new PC. Every time I enable XMP, manually tweak the RAM frequency, or change my monitor's refresh rate, the screen goes black, the fans ramp up to maximum speed, and a red debug LED lights up on the CPU motherboard. The only way to regain control is to force a shutdown by turning off the power supply. Interestingly, everything seems fine when I run at 60Hz with the RAM set to 4800MHz. Here's what I've got for specs:
- CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- GPU: Radeon 9070XT Sapphire
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance Intel XMP DDR5 2x16GB 6000MHz CL30
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B850 Eagle WiFi 6e
- Power Supply: Corsair RM850X
Here's what I've already attempted without luck:
- Updated both the BIOS and drivers
- Tested each RAM stick separately
- Double-checked all connections and components
- Ran OCCT tests on CPU + RAM, CPU, RAM, 3D, VRAM, and STORAGE, with all tests coming back clean (no errors, and CPU temperatures staying below 70°C).
- Reinstalled Windows 11 to rule out file corruption.
- Tried booting into safe mode but that also didn't work.
I'm feeling stuck and would greatly appreciate any advice or solutions that anyone might have!

It seems you’ve got a tricky setup! Since your monitor can hit 240Hz when connected to the motherboard but crashes above 144Hz through the graphics card, that suggests there might be a compatibility issue or an issue with the GPU output settings. Make sure your GPU drivers are fully up to date and try using a different DisplayPort cable if possible. Sometimes, the cable can cause those sorts of problems.
It sounds like the XMP profile for your RAM might not be stable with your motherboard. You could try manually overclocking the RAM yourself instead of using XMP. When you do this, remember that it's not just about changing the memory's frequency–you need to adjust the timings and voltage as well for stability.
As for your monitor issue, what model are you using? Are you able to set a lower refresh rate successfully? That could help narrow things down.
