I was planning to build my own PC for some time, but my old laptop finally gave up the ghost. My budget is 1000 EUR, and I'm weighing my options. Should I go all out with a full AM4 system, buying a Ryzen 5 5600X along with an RX 9060 XT and 16GB of RAM right off the bat? Or would it be smarter to opt for an AM5 setup with a Ryzen 5 9600X, use the integrated GPU for a month or two, and then add a dedicated GPU later? I need this for productivity right now but definitely want to game in the future. What do you think?

Where are you located? Maybe we can suggest something for your budget if you're flexible.
Definitely check the DDR5 RAM prices first. They can hit your budget hard! If you find it too steep, the AM4 option is still very solid. Look into getting a Ryzen 7 5700X with DDR4 RAM and a good GPU; it could serve you well for years.
The cheapest decent DDR5 I found was around 300 EUR. With the rest of the components, it pushes the cost close to 900 EUR for the AM5. The AM4 system is a better value overall.
That's really helpful, thanks! Looks like I might have to stick with AM4 to stay within budget.
I'd say go for the AM5 setup if you can, but keep an eye on the prices. You might want to play some indie games temporarily while you build your system. The performance will be better in the long run once you add a GPU.
Consider the used market! You can probably find a decent AMD 9070XT and stay within that 1000 EUR budget with an AM4 setup. It'll be great for gaming at 1440p. Waiting to upgrade later if prices drop is also a good strategy. The AM5 route might not let you game much right now, but AM4 can get you set up quickly.
I've noticed used parts are pricey too, especially RAM. It's tricky navigating this market.
Definitely! You might want to keep an eye on local listings. Sometimes you can snag great deals if you look regularly!

I'm in Spain. An AM5 setup including a GPU is around 1200-1250 EUR. The AM4 system is much closer to 1000 EUR, and that extra cost is significant for me.
