Can a Non-Apple USB-C Charger Damage My iPhone and iPad?

I'm really frustrated because my iPhone 15 Pro and iPad 11 seem to be broken after using a non-Apple USB-C charger. I was at my parents' house over the Holidays and charged my iPhone with a charger that might have come from a gas station—usually it works fine. Yesterday, I charged my phone to 100% and attempted to charge my iPad at the same time, but it didn't seem to be getting any power. Later, when I plugged both devices into their Apple-approved chargers, neither would charge. After trying some hard resets and letting them sit, I woke up to find the issue persists. I visited Geek Squad and they said it's one of the worst cases they've seen; my iPhone won't even charge wirelessly anymore, and I can't even try that with my iPad. Both devices are relatively new—my phone is about two years old and my iPad is just three months. I'm really worried about potentially having to spend $1000 on repairs. Has anyone experienced something similar? Any advice would be appreciated!

In the future, avoid using cheap chargers—it can really mess up your devices. Let the batteries drain completely, then try charging them again with the original Apple charger. You might also want to try a different USB-C cable just in case the current one got damaged.

Yeah, skip Geek Squad and go directly to Apple. If you don't have a nearby store, you can call their support. Given how new your iPad is, they might cover the repairs under warranty. Just be cautious; sometimes Best Buy staff can be more focused on sales than providing real help.

What a bummer! Good luck getting your devices sorted out! Just don't use those cheap chargers again, alright?

You should definitely go to an Apple Store instead of Geek Squad; they have more expertise with these devices. Also, it's probably best to avoid mentioning the gas station charger when you go—just stick to the facts. Don't rely too much on ChatGPT for fixing this either.

Why the hate on ChatGPT? It gave some good insights! But I agree, the Apple Store should be your first stop.

I recommend heading straight to Apple for this issue. Since your iPad is just three months old, it could still be under warranty. Just keep in mind not to mention the non-Apple charger during your visit to avoid complications.
