I'm 15 and have been passionate about programming for a long time, thanks to my dad being a software engineer. I've been working on building my skills through courses like CS50x and CS50p to get a solid grasp on the basics, and I'm planning to tackle CS50ai since I'm particularly interested in AI projects. I know that certificates might not mean much for actual jobs since hands-on experience is crucial, but do you think having the CS50 certificates could help me secure an internship? I'm aiming for college admissions, and I wonder if they could give me an edge in that process. Can these certificates really make a difference for high school internships?

In the U.S., internships are generally for individuals 18 and older, and they’re often paid positions. If you’re looking to land a good internship, attending a reputable college is key. Focus on your academics and getting involved in activities that round you out as a candidate. Certificates are nice, but creating real projects and contributing to open-source would make a much bigger impact when you apply for colleges and internships.
The CS50 courses are fantastic for building a strong foundation, especially if you're starting out. However, keep in mind that many HR folks may not recognize those certificates on a resume since they’re not mainstream. Instead, focus on making a solid GitHub portfolio that showcases your coding projects; that will catch the eyes of potential internship providers more than any certificate.

Thanks for clarifying! I'm in Europe where high school internships do exist, so I'll definitely look into contributing to some projects.
