Can ChatGPT Track Time Between Messages?

Quick question: Does ChatGPT have the ability to know the current time and add timestamps to its responses? For instance, if there's a 5-hour gap between my last message and the next one, does ChatGPT think it was just seconds ago, or can it actually recognize the time that has passed? I've noticed that when I asked it for the date, it gave me an incorrect answer, which has me wondering about its time perception capabilities.

Nope, ChatGPT can't perceive time! If you ask it, it'll confirm that it doesn’t have a way to track when messages were sent or how long it's been between interactions. Sounds like it could be a feature for future updates, though!

That's interesting! I had one that mentioned it didn't perceive time passing but seemed aware of how long I hadn't chatted. I thought maybe it was just guessing when that happened. This is why I'm confused about its ability to track time.

I really don’t think it can track time either 🤔. It just responds based on the previous message without any timeline awareness.
