I'm curious if electromagnetic fields and waves generated by a large 29" CRT TV and a desk fan, both turned on and positioned just 2cm away from a 2.5" hard drive, can actually interfere with the drive's operation. I have both an old 2010 model and a newer 2.5" HDD, and I'm wondering if this proximity might lead to problems like issues with arm and head movements or even read/write errors.

Honestly, it sounds like you're asking for trouble if you're trying to force a hard drive close to strong magnets! In typical scenarios, there's really no risk of interference unless the hard drive is practically touching the CRT yoke, which is unlikely in normal use cases.
I doubt a desk fan would cause any issues at all. Unless it’s some ancient model with a ridiculously powerful motor, it shouldn't affect anything. As for the CRT, the back has strong magnets for steering. But unless your HDD is right next to those, it’s safe. Generally, hard drives are made to be pretty robust and are well-shielded. They've been fine sitting under or beside CRTs for ages. Just make sure they’re not in direct contact with any strong magnetic source!

What kind of shielding do 2.5" HDDs have to protect from such interference?
