How Can I Manage Several Fans with Limited Headers on My Motherboard?

I have an ASUS ROG STRIX X570-I Gaming motherboard, paired with a Ryzen 9 3900X CPU, Nvidia 3080Ti, and 32GB of RAM, along with two Samsung M.2 SSDs. I recently switched to an ASUS Prime AP202 case after upgrading my AIO cooler to the new ROG Ryujin III. However, my new case runs warmer than my previous one, despite having installed six case fans (four intakes and two exhausts, with the AIO also set to exhaust).

The fans are ASUS Prime MR120 ARGB, which can spin up to 1600RPM and draw 0.18A each at 12V. The ARGB lighting takes another 0.3A per fan at 5V. Unfortunately, the motherboard's 12V chassis fan header is only rated for 1A, while I need at least 1.08A for all six fans. Similarly, the 5V ARGB header is rated for 3A but I'm drawing 1.8A with all the lights.

Everything seems to be working well for now, but I'm looking for a solution that will allow me to control the fan speeds through the software I'm using. Any recommendations on devices or hubs that might work?

A fan controller could be the solution. Your setup is trying to put a lot of load on a single header, even if the fans are low-power. A controller will help manage that more efficiently.

Consider getting a fan hub that specifically supports ROG software, especially if you’re already using their ecosystem. That way, you can keep the customization you want.

Good point! But honestly, I’d rather have something that doesn't rely on their software. Their hardware is great, but the software can be a pain.
