I've noticed that Face ID on my device can recognize me even when my hand covers almost half of my face. I was testing some apps to see how they work with Face ID, especially locked ones and password apps. Initially, it didn't recognize me at all, but now it seems to have adjusted to my hand being in the way. I'm worried this might be a security issue. Can anyone tell me if this poses a risk? Do I need to reset Face ID to fix it, or will it eventually stop adapting if I stop covering my face?

It sounds like you might have the mask setting enabled on your Face ID. If you're worried about it recognizing you with your face covered, it's a good idea to turn that setting off.
According to Apple, Face ID is designed to adapt over time to changes in your appearance, including covering part of your face. It will actually use a mathematical representation of your face that can change as your face does. If you've been using it like that, the system might have adjusted to your hand being there, but you can reset Face ID to start fresh if you're concerned. It should eventually revert back if you stop covering your face, though.
So it’ll go away if I stop?
I don’t have that on.
