Can I Build a 1080p, 60fps Gaming PC on a $900-$1400 Budget in 2026?

Hey folks! With my tax returns arriving, I'm ready to invest in a new gaming PC. It's been quite a while since I've gamed, mainly because my old hardware just doesn't cut it anymore for modern games. I know prices have been tough lately, but it feels like now might be a good time to buy. I'm specifically looking to find out if I can reasonably build a PC within a budget of $900 to $1400 that can handle modern triple-A games at 1080p and 60fps consistently. While I do own a 4K monitor, I'm not really interested in 4K gaming, and my monitor is limited to 60Hz, so I won't benefit from higher frame rates. Ideally, I would prefer to stick closer to $1200, but I can stretch to $1400 if necessary. Additionally, I'd love recommendations on where to look for parts and if there are any online tools that can help check for compatibility between components. It's been over five years since I've really followed gaming and tech, so I'm a bit out of the loop.

You can definitely find solid used parts or builds in your area. For example, I recently saw a 9th gen Intel build with a decent GPU going for around $550. Even older CPUs can still run well, just make sure you’re looking for 9th gen or newer for easier Windows 11 compatibility.

I have a couple of builds that might just fit the bill! One is around $1300 with an AM4 setup and 32GB of RAM, great for 1080p and even decent for some 1440p! The other is slightly pricier at $1354 on AM5 but offers more upgrade options. Just be aware that you may need to update the BIOS on those. Good luck!

When it comes to the GPU, if you’re going 1080p, an RX 9060 XT should work great with 8GB of RAM. If you want a little extra oomph, consider the 16GB version, but honestly, for your needs, that should do the trick!

Absolutely! With your budget, especially at the high end, you can get some solid parts. For instance, you can aim for a build featuring an Intel Core i5-12600KF, a decent GPU like the Radeon RX 9060 XT, and ample RAM. I found a part list that totals around $1241 which fits perfectly within your budget. Check it out on PCPartPicker for detailed pricing and options!

You should definitely look into PCPartPicker.com; it’s super helpful for compiling your parts and checking compatibility. If you're in the US, Micro Center is another great option for CPU, motherboard, and RAM bundles. Going for an AMD 9060 or Intel GPU can save you some cash on graphics. Don't forget to factor in whether you need a new case or storage.
