I've been wanting to build my own gaming PC for a while now, and I finally have the budget to do it. This will be my first desktop since I've only used laptops before. I'm acutely aware that RAM prices are pretty high right now, and I'm worried that if I wait longer, it might just get harder to get a decent PC. Is it still possible to build a gaming PC with an $800 budget? I'm not looking for top-tier specs since I also have a PS5 that can handle demanding games; I just need something that can run Minecraft with shaders at least.

Have you thought about trying out the Steam Machine? It might fit your price point, although I'm not sure it's out yet. You might be able to do some upgrades down the line, which is a plus!
You can totally build a solid PC in that range if you're okay with second-hand parts. Lots of good deals on marketplaces! I'd say keep an eye out for something like a 2080ti or a 3060 within your budget.
Honestly, you might be better off looking for a used gaming PC instead. Building a new one for $800 feels a bit tight with current prices. But if you dig around local listings, you might find something decent.
I think you could still manage to build something capable of running Minecraft with shaders for around that budget. It might take some digging through parts but it's doable.
Here's a link to a build I spotted that adds up to about $822 and should run well for your needs. Just check it out!
Waiting for RAM prices to drop might be wise. Building right now with your budget and current RAM prices isn't the best deal, in my opinion.
Honestly, if I were you, I'd save the cash and stick with your PS5 for now. Building a PC for $800 will likely leave you feeling underwhelmed, especially since you have a solid console already.
But if you love PC gaming, maybe consider slowly upgrading your setup? Start with accessories and build your PC parts over time.

That sounds interesting! I was hoping to customize my own build eventually, but that could be a good stopgap.
