I want to assemble an inexpensive PC mainly for web browsing, watching movies, communication apps, and light multitasking. My total budget is approximately ₹10,000–₹12,000, and I care more about reliability and responsiveness than gaming performance. I already have external hard drives, an SSD from an old laptop, a keyboard, a mouse, and speakers. I would ideally like a 120Hz monitor, a reasonably fast processor, built-in Wi-Fi, an Ethernet port, at least two USB ports, and a dependable power supply or UPS that can provide a few minutes to shut the system down safely. A very old i5 system with 8GB DDR3 can handle browsing, video playback, office work, and light coding, but it will not feel especially modern and may slow down with many browser tabs. You might find a complete used setup for around ₹5,000–₹8,000, but inspect it carefully and avoid the cheapest unbranded power supplies. Wi-Fi can be added with an inexpensive USB adapter if the desktop does not include it.
That budget is too low for a new system with a reliable 120Hz monitor, Wi-Fi, and a UPS. A used office desktop is the most realistic route. Look for a Dell OptiPlex or similar system with a third- or fourth-generation Core i5 and 8GB of RAM for roughly ₹7,000–₹8,000, then reuse your SSD and add a second-hand 1080p monitor. RAM can usually be increased to 16GB, and some models support an i7 upgrade. Expect a basic 60Hz display rather than 120Hz at this price.
The 120Hz requirement is the part that makes the budget unrealistic. For movies and general browsing, a good used 1080p 60Hz monitor is perfectly adequate, while a reliable 120Hz model alone may consume much of the budget. Also, a UPS is separate from the PC power supply: a low-cost UPS may provide only a short backup period, so budget for one after choosing the computer.
If you want newer parts and genuine upgrade potential, it would be better to save more rather than forcing everything into ₹10,000–₹12,000. A complete modern system with a decent monitor, 16GB of RAM, Wi-Fi, and a dependable UPS will likely cost closer to ₹20,000–₹25,000, even without a dedicated graphics card.
