Hey everyone, I'm planning to upgrade my RAM from 16GB to 32GB tomorrow. I'm wondering if it's safe to switch out the RAM while my computer is hibernating, or should I do a proper shutdown? I want to ensure I don't lose my workspace!

Honestly, I find this whole idea kind of wild! Do at your own risk, but don’t expect any safeguards to protect your files if things go wrong. Best just to save your work and shut down before making changes.

Changing hardware while the PC is hibernating really isn’t supported. You might run into problems when Windows tries to load the saved state with new RAM. Just wait until you can shut everything down properly before making the upgrade.

While it might technically be possible, I wouldn’t risk it. If Windows gets confused trying to load the hiberfile into different memory, you could lose data or corrupt your files. Better to exit hibernation and do a full shutdown.

Best practice here is to fully shut down your device, remove power, and ground yourself before making any hardware changes. Hibernation just complicates things, so it’s best to avoid that route.

Definitely not a good idea! When your system is in hibernation, it's still pretty much 'on', and pulling components like RAM could lead to all sorts of issues, potentially frying your system. Better to shut down completely before switching anything out.
