Can I Charge My Phone Faster While USB Tethering?

Hey everyone! I'm dealing with a pretty terrible wired internet connection at home (around 100mbit), but my phone has an awesome 1Gbit speed with unlimited data. So, I've been using USB tethering to connect my phone to my PC. However, while tethering, the phone's battery drains quicker than it charges, especially when downloading at max speed – it gets really hot. On average, I notice about a 1% battery drop every 2 minutes, which means I have to keep unplugging and recharging it. I'm hoping there's a way to maintain a fast charge while it's connected to my PC. I don't have a fast charger USB port, and I was wondering if using a powered USB hub would help. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

I get what you’re saying! Tethering can definitely heat up your phone since it’s working hard to handle all that data. If your phone is getting too hot while tethering, it’s likely slowing down how fast it charges for safety reasons. You might want to try a mini fan to cool it down while it’s charging. Plus, if you remove your case and let it breathe a little, it might help, too.

I’m a bit worried about overheating it, though. I really don’t want to damage my phone, especially since it wasn’t cheap. I might stick with the WiFi hotspot option for now; at least it keeps the heat down!

One workaround is to use WiFi sharing instead. I know it's not the same speed, but it keeps the phone cooler and you can charge it simultaneously without those draining issues.

That’s what I’ve been doing! WiFi does drop to about 250-300mbit, which is enough for most of my needs, but I really miss that tethering speed! It’s tempting to find a way to manage it better.

Whenever I'm using my phone heavily, I take the case off and place it on a cool surface like my desk. It helps keep the battery life steady since the phone cools down better that way, which can prolong its use while charging.
