Can I Compile Code from an Old IBN5100 for Modern PCs?

I'm curious about something I saw in a show from 2010. They talked about needing an IBN5100 computer to hack into a system that had code not programmed in BASIC. I'm wondering how accurate this is in real life. The character who was a skilled hacker found this strange code and had no idea what it did.

My question is, once he understands how the original hardware works, could he compile that code to run on a modern PC in 2010? Is that feasible, or do they have to stick to the old hardware?

While I'm not exactly sure about the 'weird cod' part, there's definitely a process called emulation where you can create a program on one computer that mimics another. So essentially, if someone figured out how the IBN5100 operates, they could write an emulator to run its programs on a modern PC. That's how a lot of vintage software is still being used today!

Exactly! Emulation is the key here. The IBN5100's programs can be run on a modern machine, given the right software. It's a method many use to relive those classic computing experiences.
