Can I Configure OneDrive to Back Up the Downloads Folder Using Intune?

I'm managing about 400 devices joined to Intune and we're using OneDrive to back up essential folders like Documents, Desktop, and Pictures. I've noticed a lot of users tend to download important files to their Downloads folder without transferring them elsewhere. As we plan to implement Autopilot for remote wipes and laptop configurations, I want to find a way to ensure that the Downloads folder is included in the backup. Has anyone figured out how to add this folder through Intune policies?

I feel you on this! Many people treat their Downloads as a dumping ground. In my experience, especially in staffing, recruiters download tons of resumes without uploading them to the system and it becomes a huge risk if their machines crash. It's frustrating because no matter how often we remind them, they just don’t seem to change their habits.

Yeah, it's been like that forever! People have to be reminded continuously.

One option you could consider is changing the default location of the Downloads folder to somewhere within OneDrive. That way, everything users download will automatically be backed up. It might take a bit of training, but it's a straightforward fix!

That’s definitely one way we’re looking at!
