I'm having trouble getting my smart TV to read my hard drive. I was wondering if I could connect the hard drive to my laptop and then use an HDMI cable to mirror its content to the TV. Has anyone tried this or know if it would work?

Yes, that could definitely work! The issue might be that the file system on your hard drive isn't compatible with your TV. If it's formatted in a different file system, like NTFS or something else, your TV might struggle to read it. exFAT is usually a good option since many smart TVs are based on Android or Linux, which generally support it. Just check your format before plugging it in!

I just checked and it is indeed exFAT!

It's possible that the USB port on your TV isn't supplying enough power for the hard drive. A powered USB hub could help in that situation. But as for streaming through the laptop, yeah, it should work fine if you connect via HDMI. Some TVs just need a little extra juice to get external drives working!

I see, that makes sense! My DVD player came with a similar cable. Unfortunately, it isn't USB-C, so I can't use it with my hard drive.
