I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to connect my PS5, which has an HDMI output, to my older Acer XF270HU gaming monitor that only has a DisplayPort input. I bought a cable that turned out to be the wrong type; it was DisplayPort to HDMI. Connecting that to my PS5 didn't work at all. My goal is to enable 144hz on the monitor, as it seems HDMI only allows me to get 60hz. Additionally, I'm a bit worried about whether the monitor will support audio through DisplayPort, but I guess I can use headphones connected to the controller if needed. Does anyone have advice on what type of cable or adapter I should look for?

There are options out there, including adapters to let you utilize an existing HDMI cable for your connection. However, I'd suggest buying a new cable instead of just relying on an adapter, as they tend to offer better transfer speeds.
You'll definitely need an active HDMI to DisplayPort converter for this setup. A regular adapter won't cut it – those only pass signals. You need one that can actively convert it. Check out options like the one I linked to.
While these cables and adapters do exist, keep in mind that connecting your PS5 to your monitor through this route doesn't guarantee more than 60hz. The console might not recognize the higher refresh rate since it's not using an HDMI connection.
Yes, an HDMI to DisplayPort cable does exist! Just make sure to look for a male-to-male connector when you're shopping around. Alternatively, you could get a small adapter that goes from HDMI to DisplayPort and then use a regular HDMI cable with that.
