Hey everyone! I'm about to graduate with a degree in Computer Engineering focusing on Information Systems, which is essentially software engineering with an emphasis on data engineering. I've learned various programming languages including C, C#, C++, Java, Python, as well as SQL, HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript. My studies revolved around data analysis and processing, so while I can program, I'm not an expert yet. Given that the job market is quite competitive for software engineers, do you think I can still secure a well-paying job as a data engineer, or would it be better to enhance my programming skills to switch to a general software engineering role?

It's important to consider what 'good pay' means for you, as salary expectations can vary significantly by location. In Portugal, you might initially see offers around 15k a year. But remember, other countries may offer much higher salaries, especially if you gain more experience and skills!
It seems like data engineering is facing its own challenges just like software engineering. You might find it tough to land a good spot straight out of school, given how competitive the field is right now.
