I recently got a monitor with VGA, DVI-D, and DisplayPort inputs, but my laptop and my Steam Deck dock only have HDMI outputs. Is there a passive HDMI to DisplayPort cable available, or do I need something more complex?

You might want to check Walmart; I've seen some cables there that could help you out.

Most HDMI to DisplayPort cables are active, which means they need power to work. I’ve got one that’s unidirectional (DP to HDMI), but I haven’t come across a passive version that goes the other way.

Have you thought about using an HDMI to DVI cable? It might be an easier solution for connecting your devices!

Check out this Amazon link for an HDMI to DisplayPort cable. Just a heads up, though; I'm not sure if it needs power or if it will handle your resolution needs well. You might need to stick with an active cable after all.

I did see that one during my search! I really want something without needing extra power, though. Just looking for a simple HDMI to DP.
