I'm looking to get a new computer and run Linux on it, but I've got some questions about gaming performance and compatibility. First off, how difficult is it to run PC games on Linux? Do most games actually work, or is there a need for Windows emulators to get them running? Additionally, can I run emulators for consoles like Nintendo games on Linux without too much hassle?
Secondly, how accessible are games on Linux? Is it feasible to download games through alternative means? Lastly, how well does Linux pair with gaming peripherals? For example, I know Xbox controllers connect easily to regular PCs, but will I have the same experience with a Linux system? I really want to avoid dual-booting Windows, so I'm hoping for some solid Linux-only options. Thanks in advance for the help!

If you want a smooth experience without dual-booting, just keep in mind that not all Windows games are available on Linux, especially those with heavy anti-cheat systems like Call of Duty. You might run into some limitations there, but the majority of casual games will work just fine.
I totally agree. I switched to Garuda Linux for gaming, and it’s been great. Just avoid the titles with strict anti-cheats if possible.
There are some great tools out there like Lutris and Heroic Games Launcher that can help you play Windows games on Linux. Also, you can check compatibility for all types of games on ProtonDB or Wine App Database. For emulators, yes, you can run most Nintendo games, so you're good there!
Definitely add the Wine App Database to your list; it's super handy for non-game apps and sometimes helps with game compatibility, too!
It’s wild how many alternatives there are these days! Just make sure to keep updated on compatibility as new patches come out.
Steam makes life easier with its Proton system, so most Steam games run just fine on Linux nowadays. Just check out ProtonDB to see how well your favorite games are supported!
That's true! For VR gaming, it's better to stick with Windows, but otherwise, you'll find 99% of the games run really well on Linux.
