I'm currently on holiday in India and considering buying an iPhone here because it's cheaper. However, I've read that AppleCare is only available in the country where the device is purchased. Is it possible to get AppleCare when I return to the UK after buying the phone in India? Also, would the phone work properly there?

Keep in mind that AppleCare is linked to your Apple ID account location. This means while your warranty might apply where you bought the phone, using it in another country could be tricky. Wait until you’re back in the UK to buy the AppleCare; it’s more likely to cover you that way.
That’s a great point about needing to check network compatibility. iPhones can be different depending on the country, so make sure the model you'd buy in India will work in the UK without any issues. If you do encounter any problems after your purchase, like if you need repairs, it can complicate things if the model doesn’t match up.
When it comes to AppleCare, it looks like you're mostly correct. Apple can restrict warranty service to the country of purchase, meaning you might face issues if you try to get support in the UK for a phone bought in India. Still, it happens sometimes that Apple will honor the warranty in other countries. Just keep in mind that if you’re buying it in India, it's safer to wait until you're back in the UK to get AppleCare, to avoid any problems later.
Definitely consider waiting for the AppleCare! From what I’ve seen, different models have different parts, especially with features like antennas and frequency capabilities. If you need a repair later, you might find there’s nothing in stock for the model you bought in India. It’s best to ensure you can get support without issues.
