Hey everyone, I'm in a tough spot and I hope this question is okay to ask. My dad passed away unexpectedly in March and he had changed the password on his iPhone 15 shortly before that. I've tried everything to unlock it so I can recover photos and other memories, but it just isn't working. Now the phone is stuck on a screen that says 'iPhone unavailable' and directs me to an Apple support link. Since my own phone is on its last legs, I'm really hoping I can either access his phone or at least wipe it clean. Is there any chance to make this phone usable again?

I totally get how frustrating this must be. Sometimes, if you can still get into recovery mode, you might have a chance to reset the phone entirely through iTunes or Finder. But be warned, that will erase all the content on it. If those photos mean a lot, keep pushing Apple support. You might also want to check if he backed anything up to iCloud before his passing.
The best move here is to contact Apple support directly. I know that you mentioned they weren't super helpful before, but they are the only ones with the tools to possibly unlock your dad's phone or even wipe it. The 'iPhone unavailable' message usually means there's been too many failed attempts to unlock it, but they might have some workarounds or solutions that can help you out.
