Hey everyone! I've been a casual gamer and my current setup, which I built around 2015 or 2016, includes a GTX 1060 and an older Ryzen CPU. Recently, I've been thinking about upgrading to keep up with newer game titles. Since prices have been spiking lately, I decided it's better to upgrade now rather than wait and risk even higher costs. Here's what I'm considering for my new build:
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B840M D2H
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7500F
- Cooler: Arctic Freezer 36
- GPU: ASUS RTX 5060 Dual OC 8GB
- RAM: Crucial DIMM 16GB DDR5-5600
- Storage: Patriot P300 1TB SSD
- Case: Deepcool CC360
- PSU: Deepcool PF600 600W
I already have a 1TB HDD from my old setup, so I don't need more storage at the moment, but I might add one in the future if necessary. The total cost for this configuration is about €1130, and I tried checking compatibility with PCPartPicker, but I'm unsure if I've got it right. Can anyone review my setup? Is everything compatible without creating a significant bottleneck? Are there parts I could optimize? I know 8GB for the GPU and 16GB for RAM isn't ideal, but it feels like a solid upgrade for me, especially since I only use the PC casually. I play a variety of games including Escape from Tarkov, Arma, HOI4, and some simulators, so it doesn't have to run on ultra settings—medium performance would be fine for me.
Finally, I'm considering building it myself, but I'm not keen on ordering from multiple websites just to save €30. Would it be better to purchase the whole setup prebuilt from the same online store for an extra €100? Has anyone had experience with their prebuilt systems? Thanks in advance for your help!

I suggest going for a B850 motherboard instead of the B840. The B840 is basically a less capable version, so you’ll get more value with the B850. It’ll definitely serve your build better, especially with your GPU choice. Also, even though the RTX 5060 can work on PCIe 4.0, having a PCIe 5.0 board can help ensure you’re utilizing its full potential without throttling.
Definitely worth it! Some tests show that using PCIe 4.0 with certain GPUs can lead to performance drops, so a B850 could help maximize your new setup.
If you can, I strongly advise looking at the 9060 XT 16GB or the 5060 Ti 16GB versions. Getting the 16GB models will really enhance your gaming experience, especially since you’re planning to keep this setup for a while. It's a significant upgrade and worth considering if your budget allows it!
I hear you! The 5060 Ti 16GB is a bit pricey, though. The 9060 TX 16GB sounds like a good compromise since it’s more budget-friendly. Definitely think about that one!

Totally agree! The extra investment in the B850 is worth it, especially to avoid a performance drop with your GPU. Being able to handle more data transfer can really pay off in the long run.
