I'm looking to see if I can install any Linux distribution on my Xbox One S. To be clear, I'm not worried about voiding the warranty or bricking the console. I'm just tired of hearing people say things like, "if you have the skills". I'm looking for practical methods or advice - no sarcastic comments, please! Thanks a lot for your help!

Short answer: no. The Xbox One S has a locked bootloader, so you can't just install any OS besides the standard one. Unlocking it requires jailbreaking, which is tricky because there’s not much incentive for most people to do that. Developer mode does allow running some unsigned code but is limited, so unless there's a breakthrough with jailbreaking, you're out of luck for Linux on this console.

You might want to consider a Linux container or a Type-2 Hypervisor. But given how tightly restricted developer mode is, I'm not sure how feasible that is. Worst case, look into running an emulator that can replicate a Linux environment.

I appreciate the straightforward answer. You really break down the situation in a clear way without being rude. Thanks for the insight!
