Can I Install Linux Mint on an External SSD from Another Laptop?

I have an old laptop that I want to install Linux Mint on, but the built-in keyboard isn't functional, making it difficult to set anything up. I'm thinking about installing Mint onto an external SSD from my main laptop and then transferring that SSD into the old laptop. Is this a good approach, or is there something else I should consider?

Do the laptops have SD card slots? You could burn the Linux Mint ISO to an SD card or install it directly to one. Just pop it into the old laptop, and you might be able to avoid opening up both machines.

Both laptops do have SD card slots, and I actually have a SATA-USB adapter, so I can avoid taking the main laptop apart. I also have a bootable USB, but the problem is that I can’t do anything on the old laptop due to the broken keyboard. Are you suggesting I install Mint on the SD and boot from there?
