I'm looking to install my M.2 SSD into my new PC, and I want to make sure I don't lose any data on it. This drive has no operating system; it's just packed with files, mainly my raw drone videos and some photos. When I install it, do I just select 'do not format' in Disk Management?

If you’re not using it for your OS, it’s safer to set up your new PC first without the SSD. Once you’ve got the OS installed, connect the SSD and check Disk Management for it if it doesn’t show up.
Yep, I moved my data drive to my new setup with no issues! Windows usually recognizes the drive and mounts it automatically. Just use Disk Management if you ever need to change the drive letter.
Definitely back up your data first, especially anything you’d be upset about losing. You never know! After that, when you install the drive, you may need to check settings in your BIOS and adjust permissions, but you should be fine overall.
I’d recommend using a USB adapter for your SSD to avoid any potential issues during installation, especially if your motherboard shares M.2 slots with SATA ports. It’s an affordable option and can save you some headaches.
You should be good to go as long as the SSD isn’t an OS boot drive! Just a little tip: always keep backups just in case things go sideways.
