I just picked up a new M.2 SSD, but I'm in a bit of a jam because I don't have the original screw. My mom accidentally tossed the motherboard box, so that's gone too. I do have a small screw that seems to fit perfectly and holds the SSD in place, but I'm worried about potential heat issues. Would it be safe to use this makeshift screw?

As long as your motherboard's heatsink still fits over the SSD correctly, you shouldn't have any heat issues. Just make sure that the screw fits securely—not just loosely. If you're still worried, you can always find replacement screws for M.2 SSDs online or at a local computer store.
If you have any old laptops lying around, you could actually snag a screw from the Wi-Fi card. They use the same type of screws, so that could be an easy fix!
You should be just fine with your small screw!

Thanks for the reassurance! That really helps.
