Can I Keep My Files When Switching from Windows 11 to Linux?

I'm making the switch from Windows 11 to Linux and have two hard drives. Hard drive A has the Windows OS, while hard drive B is filled with my personal games and photos. I know I'll need to wipe drive A to install Linux Mint, but is there any way to keep everything on drive B without losing my files? I've heard that reformatting can wipe everything, and I'm trying to avoid that.

When you install Linux Mint, you'll only be formatting drive A. Drive B should remain untouched, so your files should still be there after the installation.

Make sure to back up your files from drive B just in case! If you start enjoying Linux and want to switch B over too, just remember that games can have issues on NTFS partitions under Linux. It might be worth moving your games to an external drive for now.

You definitely can wipe just drive A during the installation. It's generally a good idea to back up anything important beforehand, though. If you plan to keep using your files on drive B, just make sure not to format that drive. If you want more space, you might consider shrinking the partition on B and creating a new one for Linux-compatible storage later on.
