Can I Keep Programs Installed on USB When Migrating to Linux?

I'm transitioning my dedicated amateur radio desktop to Linux and I've been trying out Linux Mint from a USB drive to see how well it works for me. I've installed a few programs while running it from the USB. If I decide to install Mint permanently on my hard drive, will those programs still be there, or will I need to reinstall everything?

You'll need to reinstall your apps and settings after the permanent installation. The live USB environment runs completely in RAM, so anything you set up will reset once you reboot.

Okay, I kinda figured that, thanks for confirming!

If you really want to keep both worlds for a while, consider dual-booting Windows and Mint. You can allocate a small portion of your hard drive for Mint, and once you're comfortable, you can format the Windows partition to use as storage later. That's how I transitioned to Linux!

I already have a dual boot setup with Ubuntu and Windows 10 for music and video projects.

Happy to hear you're enjoying Mint! Just a heads-up, make sure to install over an Ethernet connection when you do the permanent install. Also, don’t forget to remove the boot media after installation!
