Can I keep using my 5-year-old EVGA SuperNOVA 850 in a new PC build?

I'm planning to upgrade my PC this summer by selling my old one while keeping my PSU (an EVGA SuperNOVA 850) and my 2TB NVMe drive. I'm putting together a new build with a Ryzen 9 9800X3D and a 5070Ti or 5080 graphics card. My questions are: Is my 5-year-old EVGA SuperNOVA 850 still suitable for this setup? Would I need to get new cables to connect everything, or should I consider buying a new PSU altogether? What do you all suggest? Thanks!

Yes, it should work fine as long as your PSU is still in good condition. If you notice any unexpected shutdowns, then it might be time to replace it. Also, here’s a PSU tier list for your reference!

You might face a bottleneck with a 9800X3D, but the PSU will handle it. Still, if you want to be on the safe side, consider a new PSU that meets atx 3.1 standards for better compatibility.

Do you really think 850 watts won't be enough for this setup?

You should be good with that PSU! The EVGA SuperNOVA 850 is still a solid unit and can likely handle the new components you mentioned without any issues. I've had much older PSUs running just fine, so there's no need to waste a good one!

Absolutely, you can use that PSU! Just a heads up, you might need a 12vhpwr or a 12v-2x6 adapter for the new graphics card, but that should be no big deal. Might not look the best, but it works!

Thanks for the heads up! I don't care much about aesthetics since my PC faces a wall anyway.
