I have a bit of an unusual request. I'm looking for a way to lock most of the apps on my computer unless I have a physical USB key plugged in. The reason I want to do this is because I work from home and I'm easily distracted with access to personal apps just a couple of clicks away. What I was thinking is to keep the USB in a place that's not too convenient while I'm working, so I can only focus on what's necessary during my work hours. My idea is that I want to secure everything behind the USB, since setting a parental control is too easy for me to bypass. Is there a way to make this work, or am I just chasing a fantasy?

You might want to check out something like a YubiKey! It could be a great solution for your needs. You would need to figure out how to set it up to lock specific apps, though. Maybe consider creating a separate local account and limit access to your personal apps by locking your main account behind the YubiKey. That way, if the USB isn’t in, you can’t access your personal stuff.
Yeah, that sounds like a solid plan! Just make sure to look up some tutorials on how to set that up properly.
