Can I Mix Different RAM Sticks?

I'm currently using two 8GB DDR5 RAM sticks running at 5600 MT/s with a CL36 latency, and I'm thinking about upgrading to two 16GB sticks at 6000 MT/s with a CL30 latency. I've read that if I mix RAM with different speeds and timings, it might limit the performance of the higher quality RAM. Is it still a good idea to purchase the higher quality sticks, and will there be any compatibility issues with my current setup?

Mixing RAM can get tricky. While it's possible to run four sticks, mixing brands or specs can lead to problems. If you're really set on upgrading, you might want to just use the new 16GB sticks and keep your old 8GB ones as backups.

Thanks so much for all the advice, everyone! I'm just going to stick with the new 16GB RAM alone.

Running four sticks of DDR5 isn't usually recommended, even if they all match in speed and capacity. When you try to mix different RAM types, it often results in slower speeds. If it works at all, you're in for some low performance. My advice is to stick with just the two new sticks for better reliability.

It should work, but just know it won’t perform at its peak. Mixing different RAM sticks often leads to some performance sacrifices.

Do you actually need more than 32GB of RAM? If you're upgrading primarily for performance, maybe just go with the new sticks and don't worry about keeping the old ones in. It might save you some hassle!
