Hey everyone! I'm considering using a VPS to play some small indie games because I don't want to run any software directly on my personal machines due to security concerns. The VPS I'm looking at has decent specs (8 cores, 16 GB memory) but no GPU, and I'm okay with that since I'm focused on indie titles. The physical location of the VPS is fairly close—less than 50 ms ping to my city, which seems pretty good.
Here are my questions:
1. Can I expect a decent gaming experience on a VPS like this? I know the input lag will be higher, but I'm hoping for less than 100 ms delay.
2. I prefer not to use RDP to connect to the VPS for fear of infecting my home PC, so I'll rely on the browser interface provided by the VPS company. Will this lead to significant input lag or impact performance?
Also, I'm aware that there are cloud gaming services, but I really want to control a regular PC setup rather than just stream games. I did notice that "Shadow PC" might meet my needs. Thanks for any insights!

Unfortunately, VPS setups typically aren't made for gaming. Even with multiple virtual cores, the lack of a GPU will lead to poor performance, so you might not enjoy playing games this way.
Have you considered using NVIDIA Geforce Now? It’s specifically designed for gaming and should work well for indie games. You can even set up a free account to test it out first! Just be careful about your game sources as it might not work with pirated games.
That’s true; I’ve heard some indie games might have issues on streaming platforms if they’re not available legally.
