Hey everyone, I'm looking for some help here. My niece received a really disturbing video on Instagram from a classmate, basically threatening a male friend of hers. She got so scared that she deleted the whole chat, but now the school needs some proof of the threat before they can do anything. We're planning to go to the police too, but I worry they might say the same thing. We aren't in the USA, and while I think it's probably not a serious threat, it's better to be safe. Is there any way to recover that video, besides going through Instagram's data recovery? Thanks in advance for any ideas!

This might be a bit off-topic, but if you’re in the UK, check the school’s bullying policy on their website. This will help ensure you know what they should be doing to support your niece. Schools often need proof to take action, but they should have some support systems in place regardless of the proof.
You could try contacting Meta directly regarding the situation. It might be a long shot, but you never know!
We already tried reaching out to them, but good luck getting a response.
Yeah, good luck with that. Meta doesn't always respond promptly.
Definitely take the situation to the police. Even if there's no chat left to show, at least share the name of the classmate who sent the video. They have the ability to reach out to social media platforms for access to full chat logs, including deleted ones. It's a shot worth taking!
We are going to the police, but I no doubt they won’t take much action. At least we’ll have a record of it.
We’re not based in the UK, and the school here rarely acts without hard evidence. We're hoping to get some friends who saw the video to back her up.
