Hey everyone, I could really use some advice. I've got a 2018 iMac that I believe needs a new video card. I found a replacement on eBay for around $50, but every tech shop I've approached has refused to work on it, stating it's too outdated. I spent about $1,000 on this refurbished computer in 2022, thinking it was a newer model, but it turned out to be from 2018. It worked well for a couple of years until it started having issues. Now that I've identified the problem, I want to know if anyone here can help me figure out how to replace the video card myself, as I don't have any experience working on iMacs. I really don't want to just toss it aside!

Just so you know, for iMacs from 2009 to 2021, there's actually no separate GPU. The GPU is part of the logic board, which makes it really tricky to replace on your model since the parts are hard to find after a certain point. Most repair shops won't take on computers that are over five years old because of this.
I say go for it! Check out some YouTube tutorials—it's definitely an adventure you won't forget. Just make sure to gather all your tools and patience first! And yeah, always get advice before jumping into a project like this, not after you buy parts.

I totally get that! Since I’m already frustrated with the situation, do you think my best bet is to just wipe it and recycle it for something new?
