Can I Safely Use a 12V 1.5A Power Source for My 12V 2A Router?

I've got a dual-band router that requires a 12V 2A power supply. I'm considering using a 10,000mAh power bank that outputs 12V 1.5A since my area often faces power outages. I only plan to use the router for light activities like gaming and streaming, primarily on the 2.4GHz band, and I might disable the 5GHz to save power. Will this setup work for 1-2 hours?

Yeah, it'll probably work without issues. Most of the time, the router doesn’t pull its max power. Just make sure to check the polarity when you connect everything, and keep it light on usage!

I'll also be using it lightly, so hopefully, it holds up!

You should be fine! The router likely won't use the full 2A. It's common for devices to draw less power than their maximum rating. Just keep in mind that if the current is too low, the voltage may drop, causing the router to shut off. Give it a try and see how it goes!

That's exactly what I was thinking. The full 2A might not be used all the time!

I'd be cautious though. If your router tries to draw more than 1.5A, you might experience glitches or even damage to either the router or your power bank. For safety, it's recommended to use a supply that matches the router's rating.

Good point! I guess I should think about getting a more powerful adapter.
