I'm thinking about using Fedora or Mint for my Linux setup, but I'm wondering if I can configure it to have a similar experience to a Steam Deck. I'd like to have a gamepad UI, options for FPS limiting, and better performance from using the Gamescope session as a compositor. Ideally, I'd want to boot straight into Gamescope instead of a traditional desktop environment but still have the option to switch to the desktop when needed. Is this feasible?

You might want to check out Bazzite. It's similar to what you're looking for since it has a game mode. It's based on Fedora and uses the Immutable Sliverblue stuff, so it could align well with your setup.

That sounds interesting! I've tried CachyOS before, but as a beginner, I was hesitant to dive into Arch. I did use it on the Steam Deck but didn't explore desktop mode much, mostly stuck to installing Emudeck and a couple of apps. I had trouble installing SteamOS too—it ended up in a black screen due to my newer GPU not being supported. Very bizarre.
